The Optimistic Explorer

It was

When unfamiliarity bred

A yearning for the next

Corner,

Light pooling in places

Only I noticed,

And the swish of grasses

At the roadsides.

The difficulty of breathing

Through open windows

And the sun on my throat

Was a lover…

Waves and waves and waves...

Voices were sounds that melted

Along with the backdrops and vistas,

Tastes were synchronised with

All the music that flavoured

Damn mimosa midnights.

Too long of this could jostle anyone

Out of complacency.

A taking with both hands,

Heave him over the side to where

We could both drown a little…

Never felt so sure

As when I walked,

Beautifully,

Down marble steps.
